About

My name is Michael Hawkins. I am currently a student in the University of Maine system pursuing a degree in Biology (and English, but that’s rather incidental). This is a blog devoted to evolution. It is geared toward defending the underlying theme of all of biology against the insult of creationism, ignorance, and misinformation. But most importantly, it is about science. First and foremost, science is the best way of knowing. It deserves a place high within any society. This blog is here to fight against its undue degradation.

For those interested, the current picture heading this blog is of an oreodont fossil. I came across it just a few hundred feet from a short trail in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. It belonged to a sheep-sized grazer that lived about 35 million years ago. It also firmly belonged to that patch of ground, to my fossil-snatching dismay (which is illegal).
